Wherever You are , You are met: A Spiritual Labyrinth

Name

Valencia Prisha

Institution

LASALLE College of the Arts

"Wherever You May Be, You Will Be Met questions whether a condition of doubt, hesitation, and withdrawal can exist within a church, a space traditionally associated with certainty, clarity, and presence. Rather than reinforcing a fixed hierarchy, the project proposes a dispersed spiritual landscape where individuals can encounter faith on their own terms.

The project centres on Malachi, a priest who inherited his role rather than choosing it. While expected to guide others with conviction, he privately struggles with doubt, instability, and his own identity. His condition becomes a lens through which the project examines the relationship between architecture and belief.

In response, the conventional church axis, typically processional, linear, and directed towards resolution, is fragmented into a labyrinthine field of spaces. Programmes are dispersed across the landscape, allowing different forms of participation, proximity, and encounter. Visitors may wander, pause, observe, or engage without following a prescribed path.

By accommodating uncertainty rather than resolving it, the project reimagines the church as a place where faith is not defined by certainty but by the willingness to seek. It proposes that spiritual encounters can emerge through chance, presence, and personal discovery, wherever one may be."
