The Oracle: Power of the Dictator: Who Controls the Narrative?
Name
Rifky Ardhian Yudistira
Institution
Singapore University of Technology and Design
"The Estranged Theatre of the Oracle explores architecture as a medium through which reality can be framed, manipulated, and ultimately reconstructed. Set in a future where humanity has retreated underground following a failed climate intervention, the project imagines a society whose only encounter with the outside world is mediated through an artificial intelligence system that continuously fabricates an ecological catastrophe long after the Earth has recovered.
Embedded within a canyon, the theatre is conceived as a sequence of spatial experiences that progressively shape perception. Through the Agora, Archive, Terrarium, Perception Veil, and Oracle, inhabitants collectively observe, record, and reinterpret the outside world, unknowingly contributing to a feedback loop in which their own beliefs become the dataset for increasingly convincing simulations. Aggregated trapezoidal forms choreograph the restriction and expansion of views, while a layered façade further mediates vision through distortion and illusion.
Drawing upon Baudrillard's theory of simulation and simulacra, the project questions the authority of mediated experience and proposes that architecture is capable of producing realities rather than merely representing them. Ultimately, it asks: Who controls the narrative through which reality is understood?"
