Loop of Bloom

Name

Kelly Kwan

Institution

Nanyang Polytechnic

"Nestled within Nanyang Polytechnic, The Loop of Bloom reimagines Block P1 as a living ecosystem where food, nature, and community intertwine across ten stories. Designed as an immersive regenerative learning hub, the project invites visitors to experience sustainability not as a concept, but as part of everyday life. At its core, a vertical farm with rotating planter boxes forms a constantly shifting green spine, creating a vibrant backdrop while improving access for harvesting and maintenance. Responsive kinetic mesh panels along the south façade adapt to sunlight and weather, allowing the building to visually and environmentally respond to its surroundings. Complementing this, the west façade's green wall filters light and cools communal spaces such as the farmers market, café, and workshop areas below.

Beyond production, the project embraces a closed-loop system where café waste is transformed into compost, and pond water is purified for irrigation. Through workshops, urban farming, and shared community spaces, visitors are encouraged to actively participate in regenerative practices, fostering a deeper connection between people, food, and the environment."
