Breathscape: Cultivating Connections: Space of Daily Mindfulness
Name
Michael Widya, Puan Nasya Airin, Nicholas Benedict Ernst, Dones Franz Laurence
Institution
Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts
"Creating an opportunity for students to step away from the intensity of campus life and reconnect with a sense of place. Through spatial and behavioral analysis, the project contextualizes a shared gathering space to cultivate new ways of spatial engagement.
The project expands on the phenomenon of ""Instant Gratification"" and ""Nature Deficit,"" which is a consequence of varied levels of Academic Stress as a prominent issue commonly experienced by urban youths. ""Breathscape"" reforms the role of an Institution to provide resources for students to cope with academic stress.
Through ""Breathscape"", Mindfulness is introduced into the space to inject a sense of nature into the NAFA Campus 3 Rooftop, supporting relaxation, productivity, and improving students' daily habits and routines.
""Small Acts, Meaningful Impact"", transforming the students' frequently used space through small yet intentional gestures creates a meaningful impact by inviting students to shape and maintain their environment. This embraces the cyclical relationship in which people shape space, space influences behaviour, and behaviour impacts the environment. Thus, it promotes a sense of belonging in their own daily activity and fulfillment through meaningful contributions to the campus community."
