Adaptive Reuse for NewGen Entertainment Centre
"This project investigates the adaptive reuse of the iconic 1984 Sha Tin Fun City, transforming a programmatically obsolete 20th-century entertainment complex into a vibrant subcultural hub tailored for Generation Z. The design challenges traditional nightlife paradigms by shifting subcultural activities into a wellness-driven, daylight-optimized framework.
Architecturally, the project breaks open the building's rigid structural grid through the insertion of fluid, non-linear geometric volumes and conical atriums. This strategy carves out dynamic internal vistas and social friction zones while preserving the structure's physical heritage. The programmatic synthesis bridges two distinct youth movements: professional esports training environments (MOBA & FPS) and alcohol-free ""soft lifestyle"" raves that integrate coffee culture, yoga, and fitness.
Ultimately, viewers should see this project as a manifesto for urban renewal—a proof of concept showing how aging, comprehensive entertainment architecture can be radically reclaimed by weaving subcultural energy with health-conscious communal spaces."
