The Wavelength of Play

    Project Description

Set atop Northpoint City’s rooftop, The Wavelength of Play reimagines the playground as a rhythmic, intergenerational field of exploration. Like a visual and spatial symphony, each curve and crest of the design is orchestrated to evoke different “rhythms” of interaction—fast and slow, loud and quiet, playful and reflective.

The project is inspired by the concept of wavelengths, using undulating forms to guide users across modular play zones tailored for toddlers, youths, adults, and the elderly. These include a sensory garden, reflexology path, water play area, and open gathering spaces, all woven together by a meandering stream that connects the site both physically and symbolically.

Modularity is at the heart of the design. The curvilinear frames are constructed with DfMA (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly) principles, allowing for flexible installation and future adaptability. Each zone can evolve independently or be reconfigured over time, ensuring that the space remains relevant for years to come.
Designed with inclusivity in mind, the playscape features wheelchair-accessible paths, quiet corners, and multi-sensory features that engage beyond just sight and sound. The result is a shared urban oasis where families, teens, and seniors can all find their own pace and rhythm of play.

The Wavelength of Play invites us to rethink rooftops—not as leftover spaces, but as platforms for joyful, inclusive, and ever-evolving urban experiences.
