Architectural Fits

    Project Description

An agile operation that fits components of architecture onto, into, within existing urban structures, performing as appendages, seams, cloaks, and other forms of “fit”. As a result, social fits and relationships are radically reorganised.

In this speculative timeline, the project initiates in an abandoned mixed use property in the 2025 Chinatown in Washington DC. The augmentations compound and expand through time to spawn in other localities as part of a growing “socioarchitectural” movement.

The localised initiative of ordinary Washingtonians has widespread repercussions. It sets in motion a string of new civics: new social structures and spaces of collective ownership, interdependence and belonging.

Challenging alienating, individualistic structures of urban living, this project proposes an architecture that is civic in its conception, construction and consequence; one which leverages architectural operations to propose civics of fundamentally new spatial, and social, potentials.
