    Project Description

Situated at Ang Mo Kio Library, I was tasked with reimagining the space to meet the evolving needs of the community by introducing a new program mix and spatial composition. My approach was to incorporate the architectural system developed in the previous term, which was inspired by the unique movement of caterpillars specifically their expansion and contraction. This dynamic motion became the conceptual foundation for the building form.

Through research, I discovered that the North-South Corridor was being constructed adjacent to the site, along with newly added cycling paths. This insight sparked the idea to transform the library into a hybrid space, combining a cycling hub with traditional library
functions. In addition to reading and study areas, the new design would include bicycle parking, a bike shop, and most notably, a velodrome. This would create a multifunctional space that caters to both cyclists and readers alike.

The reinvented library would benefit the local community, particularly students from nearby institutions like Mayflower Primary School and Nanyang Polytechnic. Cyclists could conveniently park their bikes and take a break, perhaps visiting nearby Ang Mo Kio Town. The integration of these programs would transform the library into a vibrant hub, serving both as a cultural space and a vital amenity for the growing cycling community.
